“Betty and Veronica – the names alone are a vivid four-color flashback to an era of sweet, comic book innocence. Their eternal love triangle, with all-American freckle-faced Archie, is legendary in its teen tension, tight sweaters and two-toned saddle shoe charm. Girl-next-door blonde Betty vs. vivacious, spoiled rich-girl, brunette Veronica, an epic rivalry, now in two contrasting MAC color collections, packaged in exclusively designed cases.”
Archie’s Girls. The name didn’t ring a bell when I first heard about this new MAC collection, so I didn’t quite know what this 37-piece limited edition was all about.
Soon after, I learned that Archie’s Girls is a super popular comic in the US with Archie, Betty and Veronica as main characters. Shame on me for having spent 4 years in the US and not knowing what Archie and his girls are all about!
Well-behaved Betty and attractive Veronica were MAC’s inspiration for this new collection, and the cartoon-like packaging perfectly translates the whole comic book atmosphere. I have to say, I wasn’t too attracted by the packaging at first, not really my kind of thing, but the colors are amazing and made me fall for this collection anyway. Let’s have a look, shall we?!

There is some really pretty stuff in there, but I just can’t get over the theme and the packaging. I don’t know who Archie en the girls are, so there’s no added value in that for me. To me the overall styling of this line looks childish and cheap, so I will pass, no matter how great the actual products might be.

I can totally understand where you’re coming from. The packaging didn’t appeal to me either, but the colors (especially Betty’s) made me move past the cartoon theme. It is true that if you don’t know the comic, there’s not much added value to the entire Archie’s Girls packaging. And it’s extra difficult when the colors and products on their own do appeal, while the packaging and theme aren’t quite that interesting

Tot mijn grote, grote verbazing kan ik het Veronica oogschaduw palette aan! En het is nog mooi ook, de finish is eerder velvet en dat kan ik nog hebben! Super!
